Outfit: Cocu Corset, New Look Shrug (originally attached to a basque), H&M Skirt, Primark Tights, Primark Bag
Sorry folks for the horrifically unclear pictures! We have a few from the night but to be honest we were too busy having a brilliant night and so forgot to take proper ones, oops! Anyway this was my Moulin Rouge burlesque outfit and luckily it was easy and relatively cheap to put together. All you need is a tutu, corset and heels!
You can pick up a cheap tutu skirt on ebay for like £3 but mine was from H&M. A tad more expensive but just that little bit longer than the other tutus I had seen. I know the whole point of Moulin rouge is that you are, essentially, a whore but I still wanted to maintain some dignity on the night out!
These tights turned out to be one of the best things I picked up and the cheapest; just a few pounds from primark. They looked like suspenders but the 'leg' part at the top was actually skin coloured tights so I didn't have to mess about with suspenders.
There are loads of corsets on ebay. When buying a corset there a few things to look for to make sure its going to to the job properly. First check what the bone sections are made of. If they are silicone technically it is a basque. It looks great but will not suck you in like a real corset but they are generally cheaper. Most 'corsets' on ebay are actually basques. However if you want that killer hour glass shape and want the confidence boost make sure the bones are made of steel, then is a real corset.
The second thing to look at is the material used to lace you in. This is key as you need something durable to ensure you can pull yourself in as much as possible. If its made of actual lace or ribbon this is probably a basque, such flimsy material wont help you. A real corset usually has cord to lace you in at the back.
The final thing to consider is whether you want below bust or overbust. Overbust looks more traditional but the underbust allows you to wear a bra which makes you look even more hourglass. Overbust unfortunately makes your boobs look a bit smaller.
Luckily I already had a corset in my closet. It has metal bones in it so it sucks you in good and proper. Once you get used to the whole 'can't breath properly' thing its really comfortable! Unfortunately if I was buying it new for the party it would cost over £200! I got it from Cocu corset emproium in Manchester when I was 17. I was really insecure in school and so thought it would give me more confidence if I wore it under my school uniform. It did but looking back I can't believe I spent that much or wore it to school!!
For my mackup I did black smokey eyes and bright red lips. Really it was quite similar to the makeup look in the Vampire Diaires look I did.
Hope you guys liked it, good luck if your going on a moulin rouge night :D
